A 26-foot-tall scarecrow at the Commons on Main Street in Canandaigua needs a name to get over his height complex. The Name the Giant Scarecrow Contest is part of the Fall Into Canandaigua Festival today, where you also can design your own scarecrow (and may win a People's Choice award for most traditional, most humorous or best of show).
In addition, an 8 p.m. concert at all Things Art will celebrate the cult of cigar box guitars - handmade from actual cigar boxes. Musicians specializing in building and playing these unique instruments are coming from as far as Boston and North Carolina to perform. You also can see a private collection that dates back 100 years, and a workshop will teach kids to build their own cigar box guitars.
Crafts, vendors and merchants will line the sidewalks, and the Greater Finger Lakes Jazz Orchestra will perform. You can bake a pie or bring your homemade brew to the Pie Baking or Beer and Wine Making contests.
The Kids Corridor in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot will feature free caricatures, the No Right Turn Maze, a giant sandbox of corn kernels and horse-drawn wagon rides.
