HOLLYWOOD - Authorities released video surveillance of a robber stealing grape-flavored cigars and cash from a gas station, in hopes the public will help find and catch the sweet-smoke loving thief, Hollywood police spokesman Lt. Manny Marino said today.
The robbery happened Saturday night at a Mobil gas station in the 2700 block of Stirling Road, Marino said in a news release. At about 9:50 p.m., a man entered the station's convenience store, armed with a silver handgun. He jumped over the counter and pointed the gun at two clerks on duty. They then handed him two bags, filled with some cash and some grape-flavored Swisher Sweets cigars.
The robber then ran off, heading south into nearby Oakwood Plaza mall, Marino said. He may have gotten into an older-model red pick-up truck seen speeding from the area moments after the robbery.
"If there's anyone out there who knows a guy who owns a silver revolver and maybe a pick-up truck, and who likes grape flavored cigars, please give us a call," Marino said.
A detailed physical description of the robber is not available as he wore a black hat, a rag over his face, black long-sleeved shirt, blue denim shorts, latex gloves during the robbery.
Video footage of the caper will be posted later today.
